On30 Modular Group

- About the Group -

The California Central Coast is one of the most active On30 model railroad groups in the state. We have one simple goal – To have fun operating our On30 modular railroad and sharing that fun with as many people as we can. Our railroad is freelanced and set in 'central' California during the early part of the 1900’s.

We’ve drawn our inspiration from the following On30 groups – Yosemite Short Line, Narragansett Bay Railway & Navigation, the Texas & Hill Country Outlaws, Free-mo groups, and others. Our standards focus on interconnection; not module shape. On30 modules have all the benefits of O scale detail while sharing the some of the compactness found in HO and S scales. The modules themselves can depict pretty much anything. The only real constraint is the available transport space in your vehicle. The current modules in operation range from 24"x30" up to a multi-sectional unit measuring roughly 5'x7.5'. Collectively, we have about 115 linear feet of modules with more in various stages of construction. The particulars on the module interface specs can be found at the link below (you'll need Acrobat reader).

We are based in the greater San Francisco Bay Area region. Building a module is not a requirement to participate - just an interest in On30 and having fun. We generally get together on a regular basis and have public operating sessions roughly monthly from Fall through Spring. The group has put on displays at O Scale West, the Great American Train Show, the 2006 & 2008 Pacific Region NMRA Conventions, Great Train Expo events in the Bay Area, Just Train's Open Houses, and the World's Greatest Hobby on Tour.

Welcome to 2012:

Our next event will be the O Scale West convention in Santa Clara on Feb 10th & 11th.  Following that will be our return visit to Roaring Camp and Big Trees in Felton on April 28th & 29th.  The Yosemite Short Line group will be joining us at Roaring Camp this year.  We hope to see you at one or both of these events.
